Summary
- Starting point: Magione
- Duration: 3:15 h
- Length: 12.97 km
- Difficulty level: medium
The starting point for our itinerary is the cemetery of Magione. We follow a path along the crest, crossing through olive groves. Along the way there are scenic views of Lake Trasimeno and its islands; the hamlet visible on the left is Montecolognola. Continuing along our itinerary, the landscape opens up onto the valley of La Goga, with Colpiccione in the foreground, some age-old pines and occasional clusters of cypresses. We go past the Petraia farm, crossing an area where woods are alternated with open segments, and then take a wider road that leads to the one connecting Lake Trasimeno with Castel Rigone. We cross the road to take a narrow track that skirts an archaeological area and brings us to a junction.
We climb to Casa Quarantaia (494 m) and, from there, take a very scenic track halfway up the hill, crossing through a recently afforested area (holm oaks, oaks, cypresses and cedars). Following the signs, we soon arrive at the glade beneath Mount Ruffiano. We can climb to the top of the knoll, which has the ruins of an old fortified tower (423 m). We backtrack from the glade and head right, taking a parallel panoramic track that is lower than the previous one. From here we can enjoy a lovely view of the church of San Donato and several typical farmhouses. We return to the paved road and, after crossing it, take the same route as before, up to the point where we exited from the woods by a large estate with a recently restructured farmhouse (I Pianelli). From here we continue uphill along the road that leads to Colle Castelluccio (478 m). Following the signs, we soon return to our starting point.
The total length of the itinerary is 12.970 km.
